Livestock loss claims due
Cass County growers of contract livestock have until Friday to present their claim for livestock losses due to natural catastrophes occurring between Jan. 1, 1999, and Dec. 31, 1999.
The application for loss would require that a general condition causing severe loss on several operations existed, including wind and damaging thunderstorms, and that there were other documented losses that the County FSA Committee could review.
Operators of contract livestock should contact the FSA office at 512 N.E. C St., Brainerd, MN 56401, or call 829-5965 extension 2 if there are questions about the program.
Continuous CRP sign-up offered
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced that landowners can receive more money for land that is eligible for the "Continuous Sign-Up" portion of the Conservation Reserve Program.
This program allows producers to enroll eligible highly environmentally sensitive land at any time, without waiting for a sign-up period and without competition from other applicants.
There are many recent financial enhancements to the program, including an upfront signing bonus of $10 per acre for every year the contract covers, a payment equal to 40 percent of the practice installation cost, in addition to the 50 percent cost-share paid for establishing certain approved practices, increases in maintenance rate incentives for certain practices, and updated marginal pastureland rental rates nationwide.
The new rules do not apply to all CRP practices entered into the continuous CRP sign-up. The practices targeted are small acreage areas that provide high environmental benefits because of their impact on much larger areas.
Landowners interested in knowing more about entering land into this category of CRP should contact the Crow Wing-Cass County FSA office at 512 N.E. C St., Brainerd, MN 56401, or call 829-5965 extension 2.
