Trinity Lutheran Church of Brainerd will celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the Christian church, at the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday. Everyone is encouraged to wear red, signifying the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
Faith Baptist Church, Brainerd, will celebrate its 40th anniversary Saturday and Sunday. There will be a banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday, with a special service at 7 p.m. with missionary Rod Veith speaking. At the 9 a.m. service Sunday, the first pastor of the church, Alan Anger, will speak, with testimony time at 10:30 a.m., a carry-in dinner at noon and Jim Goodew, present pastor, speaking at 1:30 p.m.
First Lutheran gets funds
First Lutheran Church, Brainerd, recently received $700 from Lutheran Brotherhood, a fraternal benefit society, through the society's congregational matching funds program. Lutheran Brotherhood matched the amount the congregation raised through youth fund raisers. The youths will use the funds they raised and this money to send 12 participants to the ELCA National Youth Gathering in St. Louis.
Healing Light Prayer Community
The Healing Light Prayer Community of Little Falls will celebrate its 30th anniversary at 7:30 p.m. Thursday with a Mass at St. Mary's Church of Little Falls with Father Anthony Oelrich, the St. Cloud Diocese liaison for Charismatic Prayer Groups officiating. Concelebrating the Mass will be Father Bernard Gruenes, St. John the Baptist Church, Swanville; Father Al Quade, St. James Church, Randall; and Deacon Jerome Roth, Bowlus. Donna Fromm will lead in praise and worship music at 7:15 p.m. Fellowship and refreshments will follow the Mass in the church basement.
Kid's Crusade will feature Kidz Quest with puppets, stories, gospel illusions, music, prizes and surprises at 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday-Wednesday at the Brainerd Assembly of God Church, Brainerd. St. Paul's Episcopal Church will have a parish potluck picnic at the home of Ray Sewell, where those who attend will get to view the state flower, the lady's-slipper, which grows on his property. Park United Methodist events
Summer children's church for grade school aged children is from 10-10:30 a.m. Sundays at Park United Methodist Church. Children are invited to go downstairs to the fellowship hall after the children's time at worship. The theme is "In the Race with Jesus." Children will have a snack, music, Bible story, activity and prayer time.
Senior high Bible study for youths finishing grades 8-12 will meet from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Tuesday. They will use the daily devotional book by Rebecca St. James, "40 Days with God." Call Leslie at 828-1029 for questions.
Second- through fifth-graders will meet at 8 a.m. Monday at the church for a day of fishing and a picnic at the Gull Lake Narrows fishing pier. Their guides will be Jim Van Duyn and Charles Boevers. Their activity will end at 2 p.m.
Women's Tuesday night Bible study will resume at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The study guide titled "Living Beyond Yourself-Exploring the Fruit of the Spirit" is by Beth Moore. Call Mary at 829-1882 for more information.
The annual men's fishing trip on Mille Lacs Lake will be Wednesday. Meet at the launch area across from the Blue Goose Inn by 6:30 p.m. Cost: $20 for individuals and $50 for a family of three or more -- fathers and sons. This includes an evening meal, rod, reel and bait. There is a sign up sheet in the church foyer.
