GRAND FORKS, N.D. University of North Dakota women's track and field members Brittany Brenny of Staples and Kristi Dahlheimer have been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII University Division women's track/cross country team by a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Brenny, a junior physical education/exercise science major, was a first-team selection and was one of seven on the list with a perfect GPA. UND head coach Dick Clay named her the top track athlete for the 2008-09 season following a runner-up finish in the 5,000-meter with a time of 17:29.86 and a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at the Great West Outdoor Championships.
Other highlights this season for Brenny includes a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters at 2009 GWC Indoor Championship and a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the outdoor conference meet. She was also a three-time champion in the 5,000 meters (Ron Masanz, Minot State and Bemidji State Invitationals).
Brenny's cross country season included first place at the Northern State Invite and the Ron Pynn Invite and runner-up finished at the Tim Young Invite. She garnered All-GWC Cross Country honors after placing fourth at 2008 championship and was named to the 2008 Great West Conference All-Academic team.
