12TH ANNUAL RIDE WITH JIM

Posted: Monday, June 08, 2009

On Sunday morning, bicyclists gathered at the Nisswa Town Hall for a ride commemorating the hard work and commitment that went into the creation of the Paul Bunyan Trail.

Ride with Jim is led by Congressman Jim Oberstar, D-Minn., chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives' Transportation Committee, who has been influential in the push for improving biking facilities around the country.

"You can tell who are the real cyclists, coming out on a 45-degree day to bike. We've done the Paul Bunyan Trail ride in blazing heat, warm rain and cold rain, but never this cold," Oberstar said to the crowd before heading out on the 28-mile round trip from Nisswa to Pine River.

Regarding the importance of the Paul Bunyan Trail and other such projects, Oberstar pointed out the growing sedentary nature of Americans and the rise of obesity.
