Seventy-nine cars competed Tuesday as the winged warriors brought high-flying action to North Central Motor Speedway.
Tony Norem lived up to his car number, B1, as he made three trips to victory lane in the Wissota Championship Sprint division.
Eighteen sprints took the green flag as Pequot Lakes driver, Roger Rager, grabbed the early lead. Rager held his lead until lap nine when he tangled with a lapped car and retired to the pits. Norem became the new leader on the restart with heat winner Jimmy Kouba in pursuit. Loren Langerud and Scott Butz locked wings in a close battle for third.
After 25 laps the dust cleared with Norem taking the checkered flag followed by Jimmy Kouba and Rik Sandberg.
Ryan Aho battled with Fred Aschenbauer and Justin Fegers for the lead during the opening lap of the Wissota Super Stock feature.
A caution on lap seven changed everything as Rick Sweet rode the high side around Fegers and Dave Mass to move into second and challenge Aho for the lead.
At the halfway point, Sweet was successful and spread out to a two-car lead in the three-way battle for second between Mass, Aho, and Don Eischens, who moved up from the 17th starting position. Time ran out for the super stocks as it was a green and white checkered finish for Sweet followed by Eischens, Aho, Mass, and Dan Yaunick.
This win marked Sweet's second clean sweep and the lead in points at NCMS.
Polesitter Al Schmidt distanced himself from the field of 20 at the drop of the green to lead the Pure Stock A feature. Mark Olson and Mike Japp battled for second until Japp spun on lap seven, giving opportunity to Olson to challenge Schmidt for the lead.
The entire field finished the feature as it was Schmidt taking a single-file win over Olson and Tony Loberg.
It was a three-wide race for the lead with Bill Jones taking command on the second lap of the Pure Stock B feature.
At the halfway point, the feature got wild as Troy Thompson flew over the front stretch retaining wall, landing in the pit area, to bring out the caution. Thompson drove away and rejoined the field but later retired to the pits.
Jones went door-to-door with Jeff Strecker, who made his way through traffic from the back row, during the closing laps. Jones edged out for the win followed by Strecker and Justin Jones.
