Caitlin Kavanaugh felt like she played better, but her score in the second round of the Class 1A state girls' golf meet said otherwise.
Kavanaugh shot a 118 Thursday at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker for a two-day 232. That placed her 65th.
"I thought I played better. I don't know," said the first Pillager girl to advance to the state golf tournament. "Basically it was four holes that ruined it for me. I improved a lot over yesterday. I played terrible (Wednesday). Today I felt happy about my game."
Kavanaugh said her drives were going straight, her putting was improved and she stayed out of trouble, except for four holes.
The senior shot nines of 63-55.
"I was just happy to go to state," she said.
The Pillager graduate will attend and play golf at Central Lakes College this fall. CLC is where her brother Joe, the first Pillager boy to advance to the state golf tournament, went for two years and advanced to the NJCAA national championship.
