CHAUTAUQUA, NY -- A second-round team score of 319 dropped the Central Lakes College Raiders men's golf team into sixth place of the National Junior College Division III tournament Wednesday.
The Raiders began the day seven strokes out of first place, but Rock Valley College shaved 10 stokes off of Tuesday's score to gain possession of the lead.
"The course was flooded but everyone had to play the same course," said Raider head coach Jim Russell. "The big challenge down here is not the course but our putting. We three-putted so many greens that it's not even funny."
Josh Kuha and Eric Rowbottom led the Raiders with 77s. The two both have a two-day total of 156 for 19th place. Justin Heitkamp shot an 83 for a two-day 157.
"They've been real steady," said Russell of Kuha and Rowbottom. "They were in the fall and they are now. I'm expecting a lot better score from us. Those two will continue to do well and Heitkamp will get back on track and Nick (Dahl) and Brian (Bahe) will hopefully get back into the 70s."
Dahl shot 86 while Bahe carded his second straight 82.
