Crow Wing County Auditor Deborah Erickson advises Pequot Lakes School District residents that only residents, not seasonal residents, may cast ballots in Tuesday's school district bond referendum vote.
Regardless of a person's property ownership status within a school district's boundaries, one must be a resident of a school district in order to vote on any type of school district referendum.
Residence is determined by Minnesota Statute 200.031, which states: "The residence of an individual is in the precinct where the individual's home is located, from which the individual has no present intention of moving, and to which, whenever the individual is absent, the individual intends to return." In addition, the statute states "an individual does not acquire a residence in any precinct of this state if the individual is living there only temporarily, without the intention of making that precinct home."
If it passes, the $33.175 million building bond referendum will last 23-1/2 years and be used to update and improve school buildings, which would include several maintenance projects.
A building bond may only be used for building projects, not wages or benefits.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for the Pequot Lakes School District building bond referendum.
Combined polling sites for school district residents will be at Pequot Lakes High School and Crosslake City Hall.
For more information about polling sites or voting by absentee ballot, call Superintendent Rick Linnell's office at (218) 568-4996.
