20 years ago (1990)

The Gregory Park fountain in Brainerd is getting a facelift thanks to a few donations and the work of volunteers. Mayor Bob Olson informed the council that the fountain had been sandblasted thanks to volunteers from the Paul Bunyan Amusement Center.

30 years ago (1980)

The bass season opened last weekend and the largest was a 6-14 largemouth caught by a 10-year-old Baxter boy. The lunker was taken - after a battle - by Erick Heikkenen while fishing with a Legend lure on the Gull River, west of Brainerd.

40 years ago (1970)

(Photo) Steve Sievek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Sievek, Brainerd, will graduate from Bemidji State University with a degree in accounting and business management. He expects to be called into military service shortly.

60 years ago (1950)

Registrations and meetings were in full swing today as Brainerd hosted the three-day convention of the state Bowling Proprietors Association. One exhibit on display is a semi-automatic pin-setting machine that allows one pin boy to take care of two alleys.

80 years ago (1930)

The 32nd annual convention of the Harvard University men was held yesterday at the Nicollet Hotel in Minneapolis and University Club in St. Paul. Brainerd's contingent was Ed Tom O'Brien, Dr. A. K. Cohen and W.C. Cobb.

100 years ago (1910)

Anton Oberg's 4-year-old son was lost in woods north of Deerwood. Search parties were immediately formed and the woods scoured in all directions. Monday several mine shafts were closed so more men could join in. He was found safe six miles away.
