PL student remains in critical condition

PEQUOT LAKES - Michael Ward, a Pequot Lakes High School junior who went into cardiac arrest Tuesday night in the high school gym during basketball practice, remained in critical condition Thursday at St. Cloud Hospital.

Fires reported outside Judicial Center

Two separate small fires, likely started by burning cigarettes, caused damage Thursday in the landscaping area at the Crow Wing County Judicial Center.

The Brainerd Police Department was called to the Judicial Center at 1:40 p.m. Thursday to put out a small fire in a landscaped area containing woodchips.

Firefighters were called back to the Judicial Center at 4:25 p.m. Thursday to a separate landscaped area containing woodchips.

Youth outdoor sporting expo set

The Brainerd Lakes Area Youth Outdoor Sporting Expo will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lakeshore Conservation Club, 9898 Cass County Road 77, with parking at the Ski Gull property.

Events include duck and goose calling, wood duck or hen house building, trap shooting, .22 shooting, black powder presentation, archery presentation, dog training and related events, fishing station, fish decoy carving demonstration, DNR programs, raffles and prizes and face painting.
