HUDSON, Wis. (AP) -- Investigators are trying to determine if there was a link between one of the victims in a double homicide at a funeral home and a University of Minnesota student arrested on a 1999 weapons charge.
The university was asked to provide police with academic records for the 26-year-old student and James Ellison, who was killed Feb. 5 at the O'Connell Funeral Home along with its director, Daniel O'Connell.
According to a search warrant filed in Hennepin County, Minn., last week, investigators are trying to determine if Ellison and the man knew one another or had any association. The two were enrolled at the university's School of Mortuary Science.
Hudson Police Chief Richard Trende said the person is not being classified as a suspect in the funeral home killings.
"We simply want to see if there is a connection," he said.
