OUTING -- Cass County Board voted to increase zoning permit fees 3.8 percent, effective July 1.
Environmental Services Director Paul Fairbanks recommended the increase to reflect this year's cost of living rise. He said the county budget committee recommended last year making annual cost of living increases rather than have no increases some years and substantial increases other years.
Combination permits on undeveloped lots for a house, garage, deck and sewer system will rise from $360 to $375. Enhanced 911 address signs on undeveloped lots will go up $2 to $57.
A permit for a house or mobile home and attached garage or deck will increase from $180 to $187. A residential sewer system permit will rise from $180 to $190.
Drainfield addition, per tank fee for a collector system or a holding tank permit will increase $3 to $93. Collector systems pay an additional permit fee based on flowage in the system. That range will be $300 to $752. The current range has been $290 to $725.
Privy (outhouse) permits will increase from $140 to $145.
Permits for a garage/storage building or addition to residential structure range in four steps from one for under 400 square feet to one for over 1,200 square feet. The current range is $90 to $180. The new range will be $93 to $187.
A deck, platform or gazebo permit will increase from $75 to $78. A lean-to, carport or fence permit will rise from $50 to $52. Feedlot permits will increase from $65 to $67. Sign permits will rise from $80 to $83.
Shoreland alteration permits will increase from $130 to $135, as will non-shoreland alteration permits to move more than 200 cubic yards.
Commercial permits now range from $275 for under 500 square feet to $500 for 2,500 to 4,000 square feet of usable floor space. That range will rise to $285 to $520. Commercial sewer system permits currently cost between $180 and $725, based on size. The new range will be $187 to $750.
