The Junior Deacon's Club at Deacon's Lodge Golf Course will provide four group lessons weekly, three two-day camps, and playing opportunities throughout the summer.
Children may sign up for as much or as little as they want. Costs are kept to a minimum to encourage participation.
Program director and PGA professional Hunt Cairns said the Junior Deacons Golf Club promises to bring high-quality golf instruction to children of all ages at an affordable cost.
"Beyond golf instruction, the Junior Deacons Club will provide children a positive social environment where golf etiquette, rules, and history will be taught in a fun and exciting format," said Cairns. "I find golf to be the perfect game to teach children the importance of respect and responsibility while having fun outside. Given the proper guidance, they will learn to enjoy it for a lifetime and apply the lessons learned to the rest of their lives,"
Cairns joined the Deacon's Lodge staff this year. He grew up in Minneapolis before heading to the University of California at San Diego in 1992. After graduating in 1996, he competed professionally on and off for four years before beginning his teaching career.
He estimates he has helped more than 1,000 children get started in golf through clinics, camps, and private lessons.
Helping Cairns are Mike Sustad and Sharbee Hoskins. They are in their second year at Deacon's Lodge.
Clinics are on Saturdays. There is a girls'-only clinic at 4 p.m. Saturday as well. For more information contact Cairns at (218) 562-6262.
