Beetles nip Gulls in 11 innings

ALEXANDRIA -- The Alexandria Beetles scored three runs in the bottom of the 11th inning to edge the Brainerd Mighty Gulls 7-6 in Northwoods League baseball Monday.

Dante Brinkley homered for the Gulls and Gene Lollio connected for the Beetles.

Niko Bouzos and Greg Blaesing each had two hits for the Gulls, who evened their record at 2-2.

Chandler Rose was 4-for-6 with three runs and Jaime Kissner collected two of Alexandria's 10 hits.

Josh Welborn started for the Gulls, giving up six hits, two earned runs, one walk and striking out three in 4 2/3 innings. Michael Lynch pitched the next four innings, allowing two hits, one earned run, walking four and striking out three. Greg Wear took the loss, giving up two hits and two earned runs while striking out three in one inning.
