The Garrison office of the First National Bank of Deerwood was the scene of an attempted robbery. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department and the FBI are still seeking the bandit who fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The Brainerd Chamber of Commerce is undertaking an investigation of the Preliminary Census figures which show a loss of more than 1,400 in Brainerd's population in the last 10 years.
40 years ago (1960)
A Lions Club Aunt Jemima Pancake Day Celebration will be held at the Brainerd Armory June 25. Aunt Jemima will be in Brainerd for two days prior to the celebration.
60 years ago (1940)
A benefit dance to raise funds for the Brainerd Ladies Drum and Bugle Corps will be held at the Spotlite in Nisswa Wednesday evening. In addition to dancing during the evening entertainment to be given during the evening will include dancing by Don and Gerry, and by "Nikki" Gallies and Judy Rose.
80 years ago (1920)
Unless arrangements can be made locally the paving program for the city of Brainerd will be held up this summer. The advertisement for the sale of bonds and certificates of indebtedness did not bring forth a single bid.
100 years ago (1900)
The people of this city will hear with great satisfaction that the Post Office is to be shortly moved into fine new quarters, the lower floor of the Odd Fellows' Block having been leased by the government for that purpose.
