Steve & Barry's University Sportswear is coming to the Westgate Mall.
The clothing store will move into the former Kmart space. The business recently received a building permit from Baxter with a valuation of $75,000.
Business officials describe the business as a clothing store that has branched out on its collegiate wear into men's, women's and children's clothing with jeans, khakis, sweats, shorts, footwear, jackets, tear-away pants, T-shirts and polo shirts among other items.
Big Lou's Back Room, a cigar shop, opened on Front Street in the space formerly occupied by Northern Designs. Owner Michael Harvey said the name came from a pug dog. Harvey said the business offers a place for cigars and pipe smoking with card tables and Internet access. He plans to have a big screen TV to feature Vikings football games this fall.
Permits for signs for Gander Mountain and Famous Dave's recently were taken out in Baxter so they should be up soon. Gander Mountain is going into the former Wal-Mart store and Famous Dave's is going into the Baxter Village. Both are along Highway 371 North.
The Holiday Inn Express featuring Three Bear Lodge & Water Theme Park pushed back its opening to June 15.
Heidi Rogge, sales/marketing manager, said the decision to delay the opening by 15 days was to provide more training time for employees.
Consolidated Telecommunications Co., Brainerd, is adding 3,420 square feet in its extension to its Brainerd office, which will make the building 11,440 square feet. The addition includes 2,080 square feet of additional office space and a 1,340-square-foot warehouse facility. CTC is adding a 12,138-square-foot, 32-stall garage.
Rollo Winegarner and his staff relocated their American Family office to 406 W. Washington St. in Brainerd between Wells Fargo Bank and Walgreens.
Tower Real Estate Inc., Brainerd, added a commercial division. Chad Schwendeman, broker/co-owner, said the addition will specialize in commercial real estate and business. The real estate's commercial office will be on Highway 371 North in the old schoolhouse.
The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce postponed its Monday legislative update with Sen. Paul Koering, R-Fort Ripley, and Rep. Greg Blaine, R-Little Falls, because of the special session.
