MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A Minneapolis driver who killed two young children and injured their mother on Feb. 11 has been sentenced six years and five months in prison and faces deportation after his release.
Mauricio Martinez-Lopez, 26, pleaded guilty last month to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in the collision of his minivan and a car at a south Minneapolis intersection.
The sentence Friday by Hennepin County District Judge Myron Greenberg exceeds state sentencing guidelines, which recommend four years and 10 months for convictions on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide.
