DULUTH -- Adam Janzen and Brian Hallberg of Aitkin will play in the true-second match of the Section 7, Class 1A doubles tournament Wednesday for a possible spot in the state tournament.
The duo beat Travis Jones and Brodi Cundy of Eveleth-Gilbert Tuesday to advance to the true-second match
The duo could become the first Aitkin tennis players to advance to the state tournament. They advanced by beating first-round opponents Kraig Bodi-Kyle Anderson of Eveleth-Gilbert 6-1, 6-0.
Aitkin's top doubles team then lost it's second-round match to eventual section champions Luke Gentilini-Andy Erickson of Virginia 6-2, 7-6 (7-3)
Janzen-Hallberg battled back to beat Jones-Cundy 6-3, 6-1 and advance to Wednesday's showdown.
Aitkin's Roman Haberkorn defeated Eveleth-Gilbert's Garrett Bone in the first-round of the singles playoffs 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). The senior then lost to eventual section champion Max Busch of Duluth Marshall 6-1, 6-0.
Chris Grafft lost his first-round match to Scott Hawley of Eveleth-Gilbert 6-0, 6-2.
