The defending champion Pony League Pirates picked up where they left off with an 8-3 win over the Giants Tuesday.
The Pirates posted a 16-0 regular-season record last year and are off to a 2-0 start this summer in Brainerd Parks and Recreation league action.
The Pirates struck quickly on Tuesday, posting three runs in the first inning. Zach Heidman drew a one-out walk and Grant Eller smacked a home run. Morgan Impola then walked, advanced to third on two passed balls and scampered home on a single by Keith Yde.
The Pirates assumed a 6-0 lead in the second inning with a two-out, three-run rally as Jake Carlson, Brady Prince and Heidman hit consecutive singles and Eller stroked a double.
The Giants got on the board in the fourth inning with three runs on base hits by Jake Chisholm and Matt Harris.
In the sixth the Pirates took advantage of a walk, an error and a base hit by Tyler Koep, which resulted in a two-run inning.
