20 years ago (1980)

It was with initial disappointment that we learned the Brainerd bypass is on the far back burner as far as the Minnesota Department of Transportation is concerned. Richard Braun, who heads the department, said that he can't foresee it in his lifetime.

30 years ago (1970)

Preliminary census figures released indicate that Brainerd has taken a 1,477 dip in population. A loss in population in Brainerd also means a substantial loss in tax revenues from several sources.

40 years ago (1960)

One of the biggest Memorial Day crowds of tourists in history had its faith in Bunyanland as a good vacation spot confirmed over the weekend. For Bunyanland businessmen and resort operators, the start of the tourist season has been encouraging.

60 years ago (1940)

80 years ago (1920)

In an emergency count on the Park Board members filling the bench. Band concert announced for Friday evening at Gregory Park and the grass not cut. Commissioner S.R. Adair of the Park Board got out the gasoline power lawn mower and operated the machine to perfection, giving the grass a highly metropolitan haircut, or we mean grass cut.

100 years ago (1900)

We forgot to state in one of our items last week that Henry Tabert rode eight miles on his wheel to the Brainerd College and back at night. We would have thought that a long ways to go to school 40 years ago and no wheel to ride on.
