Rev. Roberta Ann Johnson

Rev. Roberta "Bobbie" Ann Johnson, 67, Brainerd, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at the Greater Staples Care Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 2, 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd, with Rev. David Holte officiating, assisted by Pastor Cheryl Berg, of Huntington Station, Long Island, N.Y., and Pastor Sherry Billberg, of Wausau, Wis. Interment will be at Mount Talampais Cemetery in San Rafael, Calif. Friends may visit Tuesday, June 1, 6-8 p.m., at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Arrangements entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter. Please note change of funeral location from Brenny Funeral Chapel to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Roberta Ann Johnson was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Brainerd to Ellwood and Evangeline (Ylinen) Johnson. The family moved to California in 1942. Roberta graduated from Talampais Union High School and then from California Lutheran College in 1969, with a B.A. in English and theater. She moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area and worked with youth at Faith, First and Trinity Lutheran churches. She became a student at Luther Theological Seminary, and earned her master of divinity degree in May of 1985. She was ordained at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks on June 9, 1985. She served as associate pastor in San Antonio, Texas, prior to becoming pastor of Grace Lutheran and Our Savior's Lutheran churches in Grygla. She retired and returned to Brainerd in 1999.

Roberta is survived by her stepmother, Nadine Johnson, of Weaverville, Calif.; cousins Brian (Kay) Johnson and family, of Brainerd, Gary (Marlene) Johnson and family, of Alpena, Mich., and Doris Ylinen (Clifford) Holtz, of Brainerd; and many other cousins. Her parents preceded her in death.
