Rodman's restaurant cited by city

Posted: Friday, June 01, 2001

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- First he got in trouble for raucous partying at his beach house. Now the city is cracking down on former basketball star Dennis Rodman's restaurant.

In Newport Beach's first civil action against Rodman, officials are asking a judge to issue an injunction against Josh Slocum's seafood restaurant, which Rodman and Random Holdings Inc. co-own, calling the eatery a public nuisance.

"This is a warning that we're serious about things," Newport Beach spokeswoman Gail McElroy said Wednesday.

The complaint alleges Slocum's owners repeatedly violate city ordinances by hosting live entertainment and dancing without permits. If a judge grants the request, Slocum's must apply for a special permit.
