'Moo...ve over Meat'

There will be a vegetarian food sampling from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Brainerd Seventh-day Adventist School gymnasium. There will be free food, recipes, door prizes, meat/dairy alternatives and nutrition information available. Area health stores will be represented.

Concordia president

to speak

Robert Holst, president of Concordia University in St. Paul, will conduct and speak at the 10 a.m. worship service June 10 at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Garrison. The church is one mile north of the Y in Garrison on Highway 169.

Trinity Sees Red

Trinity Lutheran Church, Brainerd, members and friends are invited to wear red to worship Sunday to celebrate Pentecost and the presence of the Holy Spirit. Services are at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. and will include the celebration of the Lord's Supper.

Light of the Lakes

garage sale

The Light of the Lakes youth group will have a garage sale from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 175 Shadow Wood Drive N., Baxter. Clothes, sizes kids to adults, and toys will be available. Proceeds will go to the youth missions.

Vacation Bible School

Park United Methodist Church, Brainerd, will have Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. The theme is "Jesus to the Rescue." Classes are available for ages 3 to sixth grade. For more information or to register, call Betty at 829-7066.

Car wash at Park

The Park United Methodist Church, Brainerd, youths will sponsor a car wash from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the church parking lot at 315 N. Sixth St.

Men's fishing trip

The Men's Club of Park United Methodist Church, Brainerd, will take its annual fishing trip to Lake Mille Lacs on June 13. Sign up at the church. Cost: $20 per person. Cost includes food, drink, bait and fishing pole if needed. Everyone should board the launch at Headquarters Lodge, south of Garrison, by 6:30 p.m.

Lutheran school teacher nominated

Jane Varner, preschool and kindergarten teacher at Family of Christ Lutheran School in Baxter, was one of 28 Lutheran teachers nominated for the Christus Magister Award for 2001. Varner is among 25,000 teachers in Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod schools throughout the United States. She will retire after the 2001-2002 school year.

Healing Sunday, Pentecost picnic

On the first Sunday of each month St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brainerd will offer a healing service following each worship service. Mid-week Wednesday noon services also offer healing services. Summer schedule is in effect for June, July and August at 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.

Pentecost Sunday will be celebrated this Sunday followed by an all-church picnic. For more information, call 829-3834.

Family of Christ

School banquet

The Family of Christ Lutheran School banquet was recently held at the Ramada Inn. "Celebrating God's Love: Loving" was the theme. Master of ceremonies was Pastor David Schoessow from Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church in Crosslake. Larry Andersen, principal at Family of Christ School, was the featured speaker. A presentation and award were made for the retirement of Pat Koehler.

Family of Christ Lutheran School, 2711 Woida Road N., Baxter, is accepting enrollments for the 2001-2002 school year in pre-school through sixth grade. Call for more information at 829-9020.

'Blessing of the Animals'

Crosslake Lutheran Church will hold a 10 a.m. outdoor worship service Sunday, featuring a "Blessing of the Animals" service with Pastor Mark Anderson. All dogs, cats, fish, horses, sheep or any of God's creatures are welcome for a small blessing. Crosslake Lutheran Church Outdoor Worship Center is on Daggett Pine Road near the community center. Churchgoers can sit in their cars or outside on benches.
