20 years ago (1980)

The Johnny Inkslinger Parade set for July 4th as part of the 7th annual Johnny Inkslinger Celebration is beginning to take shape with 74 units registered to date. The parade is the highlight of the celebration.

30 years ago (1970)

Problems concerning the runway approach areas to the Walter Wieland Airport will be referred to the Brainerd City Council and Crow Wing County Board of Commissioners for action. The problem stems from a recent ruling by the State Department of Aeronautics which restricts construction of buildings in the approach areas to a runway.

40 years ago (1960)

A large black bear was sighted near Highway 371 at Crow Wing Station yesterday by school children riding a bus and later substantiated when men in the area found tracks of the animal.

60 years ago (1940)

-- Miss Elaine Twist, who is studying to be a beautician at a beauty school in the Twin Cities, spent yesterday visiting her parents, 417 South Eighth Street.

-- Miss Marilyn Sheets, student at the St. Cloud Teacher College, spent Memorial Day with her mother, Mrs. R.M. Sheets.

80 years ago (1920)

J.J. Nolan lost a pocketbook containing $15 and put a want ad in The Dispatch. A day later his wife found the pocketbook. Jim had draped his pants over a bannister, the wallet had fallen out and landed in an empty washbasket, clothes were piled on top. Jim has not told us if he paid her the reward.

100 years ago (1900)

"Louise, what has become of your French poodle?"

"Why, Harry made the dealer take him back; he didn't understand a word of our French."
