Allyn H. Nelson
Allyn H. Nelson, age 80, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009. Services are planned for Monday, June 1, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour preceding the service at Park United Methodist Church with Pastors Rory Swenson and Truman R. Stehr officiating. Inurnment will be at Fort Snelling.
Allyn was born in Bloomer, Wis., on Oct. 25, 1928, to Ivan and Juletta (Knutson) Nelson. He graduated from Le Sueur High School and Mankato State University. He earned his master of arts in math from Boston College. He married Delores Schneider in Blue Earth, Minn., on Aug. 8, 1953.

He served with the First Marine Division in Korea from November 1949 to January 1951. Before moving to Brainerd, he taught math at Cannon Falls, Minn., and Middle Island, Long Island, N.Y. In Brainerd he taught math and computer science at the community college.
Allyn is survived by his wife, Delores E. Nelson; his son, Tim (Tam), Saratoga, Calif.; his daughter, Karen (Brent) Hislop, Victoria, Minn.; his grandchildren, Jeremy and Jennifer Nelson and Brock Hislop; his brother, William; his sister, Janet; his sister-in-law, Carol. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jimmie.
A scholarship will be established with undesignated funds.
