Wow, who would have thought you would have seen me, of all people, here in this spot speaking to you? I figured I would try out for this position to speak to the class of 2008, not because I'm the class president or because I'm an "A" student, but because I am just like all of you. Like some of you, I missed a few classes, and I've had a few lunch detentions, and unlike some of you, I know almost everybody sitting here tonight.
I spent these last few years at BHS mingling with you about what was happening the next weekend or what had happened the last weekend, and I'm glad that I spent time with you in our last remaining days here, where the real world doesn't affect us too much and the chaos of everyday life is handled for us. The real world is ready for you, but are you ready for the real world? I'm not trying to scare you but I want you to know that it's not as easy as it looks, so prepare yourselves. Preparation is key to all success!
There are many people sitting here tonight whom I would like to thank for preparing me and helping me achieve my goals at BHS: core teachers who taught me the basics, tech ed teachers for showing me school isn't all about book smarts; art teachers for giving me a wonderful art experience and teaching me a new trade; physical education teachers for a great dance and fitness class and for being there for me; administrators for knowing there's a good kid in me and I just have to search; my family, and last but not least, the entire class of 2008 for making my time here priceless.
I would like for this night, this class, to always be in your mind and in your heart. You know I always say to myself "Live everyday like it's your last;" well it's our last day at BHS so let's live it up tonight at Grad Blast!
It's now time for the real world, which is full of difficult decisions and hard times. I want to let you know that with this diploma, you are granted a great opportunity for success in the world of today. The real world of today is much harder without proper education, so use this high school experience and hard work to pursue your lifelong dreams. To me success is what makes you happy, so no matter what, live your lifelong dreams, whatever they may be. School is important for getting a good job so go to college; you will be surprised how much it helps.
So, have a great summer, I know I will see you around, and don't forget to spend as much time with each other before we go our separate ways. And remember class, live life in the present and not the past, because the present is what you need to focus on, but keep your future in mind. It's what you do in the present that builds your future.
