For 13 years we did it together

BHS GUEST COLUMNS

Posted: Friday, May 30, 2008

We made it. We never thought this day would come. We prayed for its quick delivery, crossed days off our calendars, counted hours, minutes, and seconds, and now that it's here, I'm sorry it is, because it means leaving friends and teachers that have made you and me who we are. Alone we walked into that kindergarten classroom 13 years ago. But from that day on, we came together to be the class of 2008. Together we walked through the big doors of middle school and junior high. These years were crucial, with bigger rooms, more crowded hallways, and many new friendships. We had a lot of fun those years and we thought we were the coolest kids in town. But when it came time to enter into the high school, we were filled with fear and anxiety. So we walked together into an unknown place. The hallways were bigger, but still crowded; the classrooms were different. This was a big change for us and was a little bit scary. We got through those first days together; finally realizing high school really wasn't that bad. These last three years turned out to be some of the best years of our lives. We not only grew as individuals, but also as a class.

Together we got through the rough times and the good times, bringing us closer with each passing day. But now those days have come to an end. For the last time tonight, we come together as the class of 2008 only to separate and go our own ways, walking alone into yet another unknown world. So, I ask you to look to your left, and to your right, and remember that name, that face, because for the last 13 years they have helped to get you through. They were there as you walked into an unknown classroom on those first days of school and they were there cheering next to, or for you, at a game. Whether they're your best friend or just come next to you alphabetically, they were a part of your life and should be in your memories forever. So, let's make tonight the end of a great memory as we walk together for the last time as the graduating class of 2008.
