After 41 years, Lefty Somers is ending his school bus driving duties for Backus schools. Children enjoy him. Somers began driving buses for Backus Schools in 1947 at age 22.

40 years ago (1968)

One hundred and forty students will begin playing band instruments during the summer band program for beginners. Instructors for the program are Ernie Aarrestad, Dan Campbell and Dean Trzpuc.

60 years ago (1948)

First prize trophy for personnel work and civic improvement went to the Brainerd Jaycees at the Duluth Convention Center. The outstanding project for the year was Clean-Up, Paint-Up, Fix-Up week.

80 years ago (1928)

Lum Park has been made a place of beauty. There are tables and benches and fire places for the picnickers. There are row boats and a chute and other water amusements.
