STAPLES -- Mary "Mitzi" Ann Hurd, 74, Staples, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at home.
She was born Feb. 7, 1929, in Keewatin to John and Eva (Vukelich) Milkivich. She graduated from Keewatin High School. She married Duane H. Hurd on July 31, 1949, in Bagley. They moved to Staples in 1965. She worked at the Staples Power and Light Department for a time. She served as a local election judge and was a census taker several times over the years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, its ladies groups, served as president of the Ladies Sodality and taught CCD and religious classes.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail Neuschwander, West Plaines, Mo., and Linda Ellenbaum, Topeka, Kan.; two sons, Robert Hurd, Bemidji, and John Hurd, Champlin; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Madeline Pankratz, Little Canada, and Kay Markovich, Hibbing.
Her parents; her husband; a brother, John; and a grandchild died earlier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Father Peter Kirchner officiating.
Friends may call from 4-7:30 p.m. Friday with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers.
