Camp Ripley announces summer training dates

CAMP RIPLEY -- Camp Ripley officials announced summer annual training will begin Saturday and end Aug. 16.

* Saturday-June 14: tank and artillery firing, engineer demolition and aviation landings and approaches.

* June 14-28: tank firing and aviation landings and approaches.

* July 12-26: tank and artillery firing.

* Aug. 2-16: tank and artillery firing.

Jack Pine Coalition to host open house

HACKENSACK -- The Jack Pine Coalition will host a reception/open house to celebrate the recent passage of the Responsible Riders Act.

The reception, a potluck event, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. June 12 at the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack. Sen. John Marty, DFL-Roseville, and Sen. Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point, are expected to attend. Awards will be given to the numerous people who have dedicated time and effort to protect public lands.

BHS teacher named to state panel

Stuart Lade, an Advanced Placement history teacher at Brainerd High School, was named to the board of teaching by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

Lade, who has taught in Brainerd since 1979, trains future Advanced Placement teachers at locations throughout the nation. He received his bachelor's degree in English, social studies and American studies from Bemidji State University. He has a master's degree in American history and political science from the University of North Dakota.

Lade served in the Marine Corps and is a Vietnam War veteran. He was appointed to a four-year term designated for a classroom teacher. Lade's term expires Jan. 1, 2007.
