Central Lakes College employees and students are not allowed to conceal and carry firearms in facilities at either the Brainerd or Staples campus.
The college policy is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees policy, which limits possession pursuant to the state law effective Wednesday.
Summer term students at CLC will receive a first-reading/draft policy that awaits final approval by the MnSCU board June 18.
The policy permits possession of firearms related to an academic use, such as in law enforcement programs or academic programs where firearms may be used.
CLC is a training site for handgun certification required by the new law, with the first of eight, one-day sessions scheduled for Saturday. Other sessions are June 8, 21 and 29; July 12 and 26; and Aug. 9 and 24.
The classes are filling quickly, said coordinator-instructor Terry Fairbanks.
