Aulie just misses state
GRAND RAPIDS -- Crosby-Ironton Ranger Ricky Aulie was one hole away from making it to the State Class A boys' golf tournament.
Aulie, a sophomore, shot a four-over par 76 to tie for the last qualifying spot in the Section 7A tournament at Pokagama in Grand Rapids Tuesday. In the first playoff hole Aulie was eliminated.
"Ricky played really well," said Ranger coach Rich Aulie. "A 76 in most years would easily qualify, but there are so many good players in our section it takes really good golf to advance. He just had a bad playoff hole.
"He was three-over par for the first nine and one-over par for his second nine so he really finished strong."
Junior Brian Hills of Aitkin finished with a 79. Duluth Marshall won the section with a 309.
