DEERWOOD -- Herbert G. Fawkes, 99, Deerwood, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.
He was born Dec. 26, 1901, in DeBux, Iowa, to Allan and Clara (Woodhouse) Fawkes. He married Mahala Richmond on Sept. 25, 1924, in Walker. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood. He started out on the family farm, spent time logging in Oregon and worked as a dispatcher for Minnesota Power for 38 years until he retired. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 65 years.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Imogene Butler, Aitkin, Arlis Stanich, Ironton, Glenda Nyberg, Chisago City, and Maridee Smilich, Bay Lake; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Five brothers, Dwight, Fred, George, Louis and Nelson Fawkes, and three sisters, Estelle, Edna and Annie, died earlier.
Services will be noon Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood with the Rev. David Anderson and associate Greg Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Bay Lake Township Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.
