'The Brainerd Lions Club built upon its lead in the Twilight Men's League at Pine Meadows with a convincing 11-1 win over Cub Foods May 24.
The Lions increased their lead to 6.5 points over second-place Shep's, which also won by the same margin of 11-1 against Bremer Bank.

A tie for first occurred in the "guess your score game" at the Pine Meadows Women's Golf League May 24.
Bunny Oseland and Joyce Turcotte each closely guessed their score before they played. Coming in second were Verna Miller, Bugs Schmidt, Doris Moede and Nancy Morey.
Optimist club to conduct junior golf tourney
The Brainerd Optimist Club will host a junior golf tournament Monday, June 11, at Pine Meadows Golf Course.
The 18-hole tournament is open to boys and girls ages 15-18.
The top boy and girl finisher will advance to an expense-paid district tournament at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Clearwater where each will attempt to qualify for the Optimist International Junior Championship in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Entry forms for the Brainerd tournament are available at Pine Meadows or may be obtained by calling Bryan Pike at 828-9278. The entry form and fees must be submitted to Pike by June 4.
Entry deadline nears
for Junior PGA event
Area boys' and girls' ages 17 and under have until June 5 to register for the Minnesota Junior PGA Section Championship, which begins at the Preserve Golf Course in Pequot Lakes.
Applicants must submit a completed official entry form and entry fee to their PGA section contact by the deadline. Information and forms are available at www.pga.com/juniors or by contacting the host course.
Juniors ages 13-17 must compete in one qualifier to compete in the section championship. The closest qualifier event is at Pine Meadows Golf Course Monday, June 18.
The third annual American Association of University Women Golf Scramble will take place Saturday, June 9, at the Crosswoods Golf Course in Cross Lake.
Registration is due to Beth Larson at (218) 820-5093 or Ellie Aarrestad at 829-6178.
The scramble begins at 2 p.m. with teams of three or four players competing for prizes. There is a limit of 48 golfers.
Madden's to offer
free golf clinic for girls
Madden's on Gull Lake will offer three free golf clinics for girls and their parents on June 18 at 5 p.m., June 20 at 10 a.m. and June 23 at noon during the "Take your daughter to the golf course week."
The clinics will be taught by PGA Professional Chris Foley and offer a great opportunity for parents to introduce their daughters to the game of golf. The clinics will be given at Madden's Driving Range.
In addition to the clinics, Madden's Pine Beach East, Pine Beach West and Social 9 courses will offer free green fees to any adult that brings a girl to the course during the week to play. The girls also play for free.
Winners for last Thursday's "throw out your worst three holes" at Pine Meadows are as follows.
Esther Solarz, Janice Sheridan and Dorla Lind. Tied were Gloria Taylor and Carol Coult. Low putts was achieved by Florence Nachbar while Nachbar and Dalene Flattegraff each had chip-ins.
The Tuesday 5:30 p.m. women's league will be starting soon. All golfers currently signed up will be notified. Golfers with any level of expertise are welcome to join.

The Charlie's scramble is scheduled for the first Tuesday of each summer month and will begin Tuesday, June 5, at the Breezy Point Resort.
The three-person scramble is a nine-hole event and begins at 5 p.m. A steak dinner will follow.

Holes in one
Peter Haakonson of Minnetonka used a 5 wood to ace the par 3, 172-yard 13th hole at Madden's Pine Beach East course May 12.
Scott Yunker of Delano aced the 135-yard, par 3, third hole at the Cuyuna Country Club May 13. Yunker used a 9 iron.
Jeff Kifin of Chanhassen used a pitching wedge from 110 yards out on the par 3 eighth hole to record a hole in one May 28 at the Legacy Courses at Cragun's.
