ALEXANDRIA -- The Brainerd Warriors softball team completed its season Monday in the double-elimination North Subsection 8, Class 3A tournament.
The third-seeded Warriors lost to No. 2 Bemidji 3-2 in the second game after beating fourth-seeded Detroit Lakes 1-0 earlier in the afternoon.
Alissa Anderson pitched 14 strong innings on the day -- a one-hitter against Detroit Lakes and a four-hitter against Bemidji.
"She pitched 14 innings and was strong the whole way," Brainerd coach Janell Westphal said. "She did an excellent job; she pitched her best games of the year. She was fired up because we all wanted to play Alexandria (Tuesday). If we played how we know we could play, we could win that game."
In the first game, Cassey Veith singled in the bottom of the seventh inning and advanced to second base on an error. With two out, Gina Clough scored Veith with a base hit to center field for the only run of the game. Veith finished 2-for-3. Anderson retired the side in five of the seven innings.
Julie Moran and Megan Arns were both 2-for-2 with a run scored against Bemidji, while Anderson finished 1-for-3. Three untimely errors cost the Warriors a chance to advance in the tournament.
