ISLE --Verna L. Damar, 73, Isle, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at home.
She was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Brainerd, to Harry B. and Ana (Johnson) Wilkes. She attended schools in Cove, Wahkon and Onamia, graduating as valedictorian in 1944. She attended the St. Cloud Business College for a year. She married Haven Damar on July 21, 1945, in Wahkon. She was a member of the Opstead Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and was named Minnesota Sunday School Teacher of the Year in 1964.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Leroy Damar, Reidsville, N.C., and Rodney Damar, Brainerd; a daughter, Ann Thomas, Oakdale, 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gretchen Damar, Isle, and Nona Baker, Buyck; and a brother, Harry Wilkes, Wahkon.
Her parents and an infant brother died earlier.
Services were today at Opstead Baptist Church near Isle with the Rev. Perry Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Opstead Cemetery.
