Iowa officials support glossy magazine

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Move over Glamour, Spin and Seventeen. State officials hope the next hottest magazine around here will be Iowa Next.

The glossy magazine, which has the support of Gov. Tom Vilsack, will contain information on colleges, career training and jobs. It will be handed out to counselors and 140,000 high school juniors and seniors next school term.

Iowa Next will include grant and loan information; lists of Iowa colleges, universities and trade schools; and information on growth areas. Young Iowans will share their experiences within the 90 or so pages.

''We want this to be a book they care about, the handy little bible they carry with them,'' said Loretta Sieman, marketing manager for magazine publisher Business Publications Corp.

Why? So Iowa's teens will stay put.
