Brainerd's Public Utilities Commission, following the lead of the city council, voted Tuesday to declare all buildings and vehicles under its control smoke-free. It was a case of cold turkey. The ban goes into effect immediately.

To most people, the armed rioting in South Korea is probably like an earthquake in Chile, far away and of no local concern. But to Sheriff Chuck Warnberg it meant a week of worrying until he got a call from his son Tim, a Peace Corps volunteer in Korea.

Michael Smith, high school director, announced that two a capella choir members have been selected for the All-State Choir. Annette Helmke, soprano, and Kevin Peterson, tenor, will attend the state choir camp at Bemidji State College this summer.

The 1950 vacation season went into high gear in Paul Bunyan Vacationland this weekend with thousands of holiday visitors. Resort operators in the entire area reported most cabins booked and boats reserved now that the last ice is out and fishing is improving.

Viola Dane, popular motion picture star who was in Minneapolis, flew to Breezy Point Lodge to keep a lunch date with Capt. and Mrs. W.H. Fawcett. Mack Hurd, Minneapolis flier, brought her, and a successful landing was made on the golf course.
100 years ago (1910)
The Molders baseball team of Brainerd and the Deerwood team will play at Koering field on Decoration Day. The game will be called promptly at 3:30. If the game is successful financially the boys will be able to engage teams from Crosby, Cuyuna and Aitkin.
