CUSHING - Jane Margaret Mares, a resident of rural Cushing, died May 27, 2008, at her home with her loving family at her side.
Jane was born Oct. 31, 1937, in Biwabik, the daughter of Edwin and Lempi (Sundell) Johnson. She grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1955. She then went to Chicago Business College and worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad. She returned to Minnesota and married Thomas Mares of Lincoln, Minn., in 1956. They moved all around the country for Tom's work. Jane loved to travel and go to the casino. She liked working on crafts and collecting China patterns from the '30s and '40s that she remembered as a child. She loved Siamese cats and will be missed by her "boys," Omar and CoCo.

Jane is mourned in passing by her children, Mary (Rick) Buersken, of Brainerd, Paul Mares, of Lincoln, Steve Mares, of Mesa, Ariz., Norma (Ken) Miller, of Virginia, and Margaret (Randy) Kurowski, of Little Falls; grandchildren, Bob and Eric Johnson and their father, Steve; Travis, Roxanne, Shane, Audrey, Ashley, Amber, Colton and their mother, Janell, Wendy and Danny Miller, Thomas Swenson, Dillan Kalis, and his father, Tony; Kayla and Emily Kurowski; and one great-grandchild, Angela Guiliani, of Pierz; brother-in-law, Jim (Barb) Mares, of Bertha; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; parents; and sister, Norma Maki.
Services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Evangelical Free Church in Lincoln with Pastor Brian Burton officiating. Interment will be in the Cushing Union Cemetery in Cushing. Friends may call on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
