Patriots advance in 7AA

The Pequot Lakes Patriots baseball team improved their season record to 16-4 with an 11-1, six-inning Subsection 7AA win over Aitkin Saturday. The game was played in Brainerd at Don Adamson field.

Patriots' starting hurler Chase Nelson was in control the entire game as he scattered three hits while walking three and striking out four. Nelson was also 1-4 at the plate.

Todd Szymanski went 3-for-4 with three RBI for Pequot Lakes and Tony Landecker was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI.

The Patriots will face Hermantown Wednesday at Nashwauk-Keewatin as the Section 7AA playoffs continue. If the Patriots loses to Hermantown, the team plays at 8 p.m. Wednesday. If Pequot wins, it plays 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Crosby-Ironton 3

Hermantown ended the season for the Crosby-Ironton Rangers with a 13-3 win in the opening round of the Section 7AA tournament Saturday at Adamson Field.

After a scoreless first, C-I scored a run in the top of the second to grab a 1-0 lead. Hermantown answered by putting up eight runs in its half of the second to lead 8-1.

The Rangers scored two more runs in the third to cut the Hermantown lead to 8-3. Hermantown bounced back to score three runs in its half of the third to lead 11-3.

Steve Perpich homered for the Rangers.
