ST. CLOUD - Devin Larson had a long Wednesday.
The Brainerd Warriors No. 1 singles player missed a chance to advance to state, but he finished third in the Section 8-2A individual tennis tournament.
After falling to Elk River's Brendan O'Connell in the semifinals, Larson topped Chris Odegard of St. Michael-Albertville 6-2, 6-1 to set up a true-second match with Moorhead's Tyler Hjalmquist.
Last week during the team subsection tournament, Larson gave the Spuds sophomore a close two-set match. Wednesday Hjalmquist defeated Larson 6-4, 6-1.
O'Connell defeated Larson 6-0, 6-0 and then won the section singles title with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hjalmquist.
