PILLAGER -- R. Nadine Schwanke, 82, of Pillager, Minn., died Feb. 15, 2003, in a nursing home in Topeka, Kan., where she had been living for the past five years close to her daughter Rudi Anne Barko. She was born Oct. 29, 1920, to Walter Goodvin and Carrie (Kelly) Goodvin. Nadine was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and was in the end stage at the time of her death. She had lived most of her life in Pillager, Minn., where she worked in the school system as a secretary. She is survived by two sons, Clifford Schwanke Jr. of St. Paul, Minn., and Fred A. Schwanke of Ramsey, Minn.; and a daughter Rudi Anne Barko of Topeka, Kan.; and at the time of her death, by a son Jeffrey Thomas Schwanke of Bonita Springs, Fla., who died recently. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Smith of Cushing, Minn.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years, a son, David Schwanke, four brothers, and one sister. A memorial service for Nadine and her son, Jeffrey Schwanke, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at the Assemblies of God Church in Pillager with Pastor Bob Osell officiating. Interment will be in the Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.
