Open Forum
The effects of the total dehumanization of war are apparent in the mental health of our returning soldiers. As of February as many as 10 percent of nearly 12,000 soldiers treated at the Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany, had "psychiatric or behavioral" health issues, according to the commander of the hospital. As of the end of March, there had been 24 soldier suicides in Iraq according to the Pentagon's count. At least seven soldiers had committed suicide since returning home from Iraq. Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSS) will plague a large number of combatants long after their exposure to war, just as it has Vietnam and Gulf War veterans. PTSS will manifest itself in depression, drug abuse, alcoholism, inconsistant employment and troubled marriages and parent-child relationships. It is estimated that at any given time 30 percent of the homeless are veterans.
What do you think?

Our opinon: Base closings
The Pentagon has said it could save billions of dollars by closing bases that it no longer needs. The trouble is these expensive military bases provide jobs and political security to the representatives who are fortunate enough to live in a district with a base. If the base closes there are layoffs back in the home district and the U.S. representative has some explaining to do to constituents.
Something to believe in
I've always been fascinated by the idea of school spirit. The allure of pep rallies, the joy of dress-up days, the absolute ecstasy that is homecoming; it's slightly over my head. Some people probably just assume that I think I'm too cool, too intellectual for school spirit.
Vox Pop
This is to the person writing to complain about cats being outside and maybe killing a few birds. First of all the last I checked none of the birds around here are in danger of being wiped out by cats. I'm sure they will continue to outnumber cats well into the future.
Live life to the fullest
They say that the good die young. As the graduating class of 2004, no harder does that hit home for all of us. Over the years, we have grown together as a family, and when we lose someone that was close to us, we are hurt deeply within our hearts. We wish things could have turned out differently and feel that maybe we could have done something to change things. The one thing we can do is keep the memories of the ones we loved close to our hearts. We may never see them again in person, but the memories we have are the next best thing.
Time for an extreme makeover
Isn't it perfect that we're gathered on the Warrior football field tonight to celebrate our high school graduation? After all, this is where it all began for the class of 2004, 12 years ago on this very field. It was May of 1992 and we met here all together for Kinderfriend Day.
