BHS Choirs' spring concert date changed
The Brainerd High School Choirs will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Tornstrom Auditorium, a change from the previously scheduled date, said Brian Stubbs, BHS choir director.
"We set dates over a year in advance, and as this date got closer, we were made aware of a number of conference sporting events that were placed on the same evening of our concert," Stubbs said in an e-mail. "It would be terrible to ask students to choose between the end of their sporting season or the end of their concert season. It made sense for us to back up just one evening so these kids could do both."
Featured choirs at the concert include the Bards, Chorale, A Cappella and Windfall. Music performed will span the ages from a 15th century madrigal to contemporary music by Minneapolis composer Carol Barnett. Bards will perform barbershop, do-wop and English "patter" song styles, Chorale will sing madrigal, Mexican folk dance and ballad styles and A Cappella and Windfall will cover vocal jazz, contemporary concert literature and a Bach fugue.
The senior class will be honored with a song entitled "Omnia Sol" - which translates to "Let Your Heart Be Staid" - by Z. Randall Stroope. The A Cappella Choir also will sing "Set Me As A Seal," by Rene Clausen, in memory of former BHS sign language teacher Melissa Wooden, who was killed in a car crash last fall.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and are available at the door. A free reception will follow the concert in the Washington Educational Services Building gymnasium.
