Hawley ends Pirates' season

MENAHGA - Brittany Kern and Elizabeth Johnson each went 2-3 to account for all of Verndale's hits in a 5-0 loss to the Hawley Nuggets Tuesday in the Section 6-1A semifinals.

Kern added a double, but four Verndale errors didn't help Nicole Bart's cause as she was tagged with the loss.

"I thought we had a really good year," said Verndale's Tim Seaton. "We ran into a really tough pitcher today. She could really hit the corners, but we finished 18-6 and that's a pretty good year."
