Clifford "Tip" Earl Whitlock, age 91, resident of Brainerd, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.
He was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Brainerd to Elbert and Almata (Mann) Whitlock. He graduated from Washington High School in 1936 and attended Winona State Teachers College before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, for four years in the European theater.
He returned to Brainerd where he married Mary Graham in 1947 and they made their home here since then. He was proprietor of "The Coffee Pot" lunch room on Laurel Street for three years before taking up the Sheet Metal Trade under Barney Houle. Clifford was a charter member and past president of the Brainerd Quarterbacks Club which is now the Sports Boosters.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Jeffrie Hesse and her spouse, Larry, of Burnsville; son, Stephen Whitlock and his wife, Deb, of Brainerd; his granddaughter, Shayla Hesse; grandsons, Tony (Kari) Whitlock, Dan (Nikki Evenson) Whitlock and Dave Hesse; great-grandchildren, Macy and Drew Whitlock.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Brainerd. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
Visitation times are one hour prior to services at the church.
