Fire swept through a sprawling summer home on East Gull Lake early Saturday morning, leveling the dwelling and severely burning the owners, Dutton and Betty Brookfield of Kansas City.

The Brainerd School Board has agreed to hold another meeting with teachers on salaries and at the same time learned its negotiations with custodians will go to conciliation. The board is proposing a starting teacher salary of $6,400; the teachers are asking for $7,300.

The American Legion Auxiliary band motored to St. Cloud where they entertained the buddies of the Veterans Hospital with an exciting program. After the concert Dr. Holcum led them on an inspection tour of the hospital.
100 years ago (1909)
Carl Zapffe, who recently purchased the lots at the corner of Ivy and Third Streets from Mrs. B. A. Ferris, says he will erect a tar paper shack on them. The said shack will doubtless be a credit to that part of town.
