YMCA swim lessons set

The Brainerd Family YMCA's next swim lesson session is coming soon. The lesson schedule is now available at the YMCA and on the Web at brainerdlakesymca.org.

The morning session begins the week of June 15 and meets twice a week for three weeks. The afternoon session begins the week of June 8 and meets twice a week for four weeks. These pre-school and school-age lessons are taught by trained instructors. YMCA members can begin registering for pre-school classes June 1, school age classes June 2. Community members can begin registering on June 4. Contact the Brainerd Family YMCA at 829-4767 or stop by at 602 Oak St. in Brainerd to register.

AARP Safe Driving Program class schedule

The AARP Safe Driving Program, formerly known as 55 ALIVE, announced its class schedule for June through September in Cass and Crow Wing counties. The first time a participant must take a full 8-hour class. Then every three years the participant must take a 4-hour refresher class to maintain the insurance discount. The class is $12 for AARP members (must have membership card) and $14 for non-AARP members per participant.

Sixth St., Brainerd, call 829-0371 for class from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 2; for reservations at the Nisswa Community Center class from noon-4 p.m. June 30, call Grace United Methodist Church at (218) 568-4732; for reservations at Lakes Area Senior Activity Center, 803 Kingwood St., call 829-9345 for classes from noon-4 p.m. on Thursday and on June 25, July 23, Aug. 27 and Sept. 24 and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 9, July 7, Aug. 11 and Sept. 8; for reservations at the Nisswa Community Center, call Dell Draves at (218) 568-4732 for classes from noon to 4 p.m. June 17, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25; and for reservations at Emily City Hall, call 763-2480 for classes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 21 and 12:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 18.

The AARP Safe Driving Program is a classroom driver refresher course conducted by AARP volunteers for people age 50 and older.

Bay Lake Township slates planning open house

Bay Lake Township will host a planning open house from 6-9 p.m. on June 5 at Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge.

All people interested in the future of Bay Lake Township are invited to attend. The purpose of the event is to share and receive information needed for the township to start the process of creating a comprehensive plan. Charles Marohn, a planner and engineer with Community Growth Institute of Brainerd, will make a presentation at 7 p.m. covering local and statewide land use trends and issues facing small towns today.

Bay Lake Township does not currently have a comprehensive plan. Multiple opportunities for public participation and feedback will be provided. Refreshments will be served.
