LONG PRAIRIE - Molly Hoppe carded an 83 and the Brainerd Warriors finished ninth as a team with a score of 429 in the first round of the Section 8-3A girls' golf meet Monday at Long Prairie Country Club.
Hoppe was in third place after the first round, four strokes behind the leader, Molly Leland of Alexandria.
"I was very pleased with her (Hoppe's) round," Warriors head coach Brian Stark said. "She has worked very hard on her game and she deserves to be there for a chance to go to state."
With only the top four teams advancing to Tuesday's final round, Brainerd's season came to an end as a team.
Hoppe was one of the top eight individuals, not on the top four teams, who get to golf the second day for a chance to qualify for state.
"Hopefully, she does well and gets to go to state," Stark added.
Brittany Kohlmeier shot a 109, Amanda Svoboda 117 and Morgan Twamley 120 for the Warriors' four scores. Erin Olejnicak's 125 and Courtney Jindra's 130 completed the Warriors' team total.
