20 years ago (1983)

A total of $359,351, refunded recently to the Brainerd Water and Light Department will in turn be rebated back to residents who purchased electricity from Nov. 16, 1981 to February of 1982.

30 years ago (1973)

Alfred Gmeinder, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Gmeinder, Route 7, was among recent graduates of the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Gmeinder majored in hotel and restaurant management.

40 years ago (1963)

Joe Hall began serving his term as president of the Brainerd Optimist Club today. He replaces Ken Casper at that position. Other officers are Ernie Wozniak, first vice president and Herb Stunek, second vice president.

60 years ago (1943)

John Turcotte, a graduate of Carleton College this year, was sports writer for the Carletonian which received the Pacemaker Award. That is the highest honor given to school papers and only a few papers in the nation gain that distinction.

80 years ago (1923)

This summer Brainerd will have another marked improvement in its dress. The grounds around the water tower are being improved. Undoubtedly, the ground surrounding the tower will be one of the beauty spots in Brainerd.

100 years ago (1903)

"He's quite a star as an after dinner speaker, isn't he?"
